From June 23 to 27 (2012) LECOTOX organized its first five-day school of
ecotoxicology in the form of theoretical and experimental training with
emphasis on wastewater toxicity control. The school was successfully attended
by: Mr. Božana Đurišković, Public Health Institute Subotica, Ivana Todorović and Snežana Zelić, PHI Ćuprija, Dr. Aurora
Beljin, PHI Pančevo, Jelena Đurđević and Dušica Radoičić, University of
Kragujevac, Marijana Marković, University of Belgrade. Through lectures held by
Dr. Ivana Teodorović participants became familiar with
ecotoxicological methods required by regulations of the Republic of Serbia and
the EU as well as with standard ecotoxicological methods. A lecture about ecotoxicology
beyond regulatory framework was held by Dr. Sonja Kaišarević. The introductory
lectures were followed by theoretical overview of the methods that were later
practically demonstrated according to the plan and program of the school:
• Test
of bioluminescence inhibition of Vibrio
fischeri
• Daphnia magna acute test - immobilization, chronic
test - reproduction
• Danio rerio - acute test, Dart - Embryo - larval test
• Lemna minor test, growth inhibition
• Myriophyllum aquaticum - growth inhibition (test system
water - sediment) and sediment toxicity contact test
During the school a mutual
satisfaction was apparent, both by participants and by LECOTOX members (Tanja
Tunić, Varja Knežević, Branka Glišić, and Jelena Hrubik) that have held the
theoretical and practical training for the above mentioned methods. During
overview of methods each step of protocols was followed through by detail, from
setting up experiments to results interpretation.
LECOTOX would like to thank all school
participants and wish them a successful future work and cooperation.
